Starting issues - what to check

My 2.5 NA has just this morning developed some issues turning over. When I turn the ignition key (after letting the glow plugs glow for at least 20 seconds) the engine makes a quick attempt at turning over with a small puff of black smoke, before giving up and then the starter motor just spins. All of the electrical connections appear to be in good shape, the battery is fully charged. Any suggestions on what else to check?

Could it be flooding the cylinders?

How cold is it? Your fuel could be jelled.
Have you cleaned out the sedimentor and replaces the fuel filter recently?

It started up and ran fine twice yesterday, so I'm guessing it's not a significant fuel issue. It's about 25 degrees here now and I've run it in cold weather before.

We're up and running again, may have been a bad fuel/temp issue after all. We'll see what happens on the road.

Get some of PS 911 at just about any store and add it to your current fuel.

Then I use the PS Supplement from November thru March.

and run the PS Kleen the rest of the year

I have had fuel Gel issues randomly at different cold temps and look at it as Cheap Insurance. Just my $0.02
