Red face Stainless Steel Bolt Kits. Good idea?

Hello,
I have a 2000 TDi 90 Soft Top in Tobago, with only 30,000km! (Caribbean)
But the tropics destroy metal down there.
I need to replace most bolts, I have seen some Stainless steel kits.

Is this a good choice? I have heard rumours or "electrolysis" and bad reactions with the aluminum.

Please advise, and also suggestions would be great on specific kits for the doors, seats etc..

Thanks

Suggestions would be to search here and elsewhere as the decision to go stainless depends on the application. But yes you should of course isolate your aluminum from your steel.

Land Rover
Yup, Stig Fasteners is great.

Jeff, I would recommend a good lick of anti corrosion paste on any stainless hardware you install.

Great info guys.

Looks like a2stainless.co.uk have some good kits. Will message them about a Soft-Top 90 kit.

I will be bringing new seat rails to, so I will pair it up with this seat kit on eBay:

Defender Series Stainless Steel Seat Box Fixing Kit YRM 1039 | eBay

As for the Anti-corrosion paste you are referring to is something like this (not sure the best brand):

Ultra TEF Gel Tefgel L Anti Corrosion TG1 20cc Syringe Anti Seize Paste TG 1 | eBay

Thanks for the help!

Jeff, you want to be careful buying anything from that Ebay vendor... do a search for Urban Land Cruiser on the site here, you will see why.

Locally, you can get those kits from Don.

Nakatanenga.de makes far and away the best kit.

After some research, NAKATANENGA definitely has the most complete kit (380 piece - $150, compared to Stig Fastners 185 piece - $100) also included is the Anti-corrosion paste.

https://www.nakatanenga.de/zubehoer/...0-softtop?c=14

Will be ordering two kits today! Thank you again

Their kit also has factory style heads on the bolts. It's the nicest I've seen.

The kit doesn't include anti-corrosion paste. It includes anti-seize paste which you definitely need with stainless hardware to help prevent galling:

FAQ: What is 'galling'

Anti-corrosion paste it to help stop galvanic corrosion between aluminum and the stainless. You should be able to get some from Nakatanenga, one of the more common is Duralac, which is hard to find here, but readily available in the UK and Europe.

Are these bolt kits for D90's only? Or are there other kits for 110's and other models?

Cool

OK,
Now that the kit has been picked, I need your final answers: Is switching to Stainless bolts the best choice for tropical conditions if anti corrosion paste is applied as well?

The Defender in the Caribbean is exposed to a lot of extreme conditions.
Is the paste good many years to come or is it temporary?
Because of difficulty in parts I can't have the stainless causing the Aluminum to oxide there.

Just want to know if I am going to have problems in a few years or not.

Thanks again guys!

If concerned, back out the screws and reapply the paste if need. Probably could complete all of them w/in the hour. I spot check one or two each year with no issues found.

Also, some locations are good for a hard plastic washer to isolate the fastener from the panel. The floor boards for example.

I chatted briefly with Erik at L8 about possibly getting a group buy of that Nagasaki SS kit for D90.

Anybody interested?
