Squeals Like A Stuck Pig

1994 Defender 90 - insert key into ignition switch; turn key to start position; starter turns; engine starts; release key to run position. At that moment a "SQUEAL" is heard from the engine compartment. Last less than a second. No other obvious problems. Anyone have an idea where the pig is hiding?

Sounds like a weak or broken bendix spring, if its just for a second when you release the key from the start position

If you're by yourself, just spray the belts with a little WD-40 prior to your startup.

That will at least tell you if it is BELT related if it eliminates the squeal momentarily....

Check the tension and condition of all the belts first.
