Squeaking...

Greetings all, picked up a 95 D90 a few weeks ago and since then it has developed a high pitched squeak coming from the front passenenger side, thought it was at first the rear tire carrier...Not the AC, occurs when I'm driving and can't hear the noise when the engine is idling...Think it may be door hinges??? Anyone have this problem?? or know how to fix it besides earplugs?

Get some WD40 and start squirting things until the noise goes away. There are 58,236 things on my Defender that squeek, rattle, or make noise you just need to learn which things you should worry about.

Once again, Mike is correct. It could be about 58,236 things. I would start with the door locks, hinges, seat rails, anything that is metal rubbing on metal. You may also want to try tightning seat rail bolts, roll bar bolts, etc...... Post some pictures of your new 4 wheeled money pit!

I have a list: tire carrier, rear door hinges, sliding rear windows, roll cage mounts, radiator cap rubbing on hood. Then there's the rattle list......

Just another thought... sometimes air leaking around the door can cause a high-pitched whistle that might sound like a squeak, hence why you only hear it while driving. If so, you can adjust the door so that it seals better.

Thanks for the input...had already hosed down everything with WD-40, pretty much a no smoking zone as a result...will start tightening once the squalls subside outside...

Check the seat rails at the very ends of the rails. You'll notice the portion that bolts down into the seat box is a seperate piece/tab of steel welded (badly) onto the end of the main seat runner. It's common for the welds to fracture allowing the seat frame to flex and cause the annoying sqeaking you describe.

AAGGGHHH! I have this noise too! I just installed a hardtop (thanks evilfij) and that was making noise so I had to trim & modify that, but now I have a sqeaking noise that is not hard top related- it seems to be coming from the dash somewhere? I already tightened everything I could find. Aarrgghh!

I had the same problem and it was my seat rails causing it. As long as I had a passenger it was fine...

I have this - keep forgetting to put a spot weld on the rail when I have the welder out. Easy to tell if that's your squeak wade - just reach over and put a hand on the passenger seat. If the squeak stops, the seat rail is separating.

squeaking

I have a noise....happens when i turn or hit a bump..sounds more like a large metal object hitting a spring- I am in the middle of spraying the undercarriage as well....it has helped a bit.

cord - sounds like your seat rail mentioned above...mine did the same, now it just clicks instead of squeaks. goes away when i slide the seat all the way forward (when driving). maybe try the same and see if it goes away.

Here's another: My clutch pedal squeaks ever-time i press it in and on the way out...its silly loud. It got even worse when i sprayed wd40 up in the hole were the clutch lever goes into the bulhhead!? I can't even see the spring in there...any ideas on how to get to it with out doing a frame off restoration?

Another squeak from passenger side is (On roll up windows doors only) that the trim of the door rubs against the trim on the dash near where the grab handle is. If Im not clear enough Ill take a picture of the place.
