Speedometer question (NAS)

Will a speedo off of a 1994 D90 work on a 1997? Is there a way to make it work?

No. Yes but you wouldn't want to do it.

Soapy water / KY jelly, etc. is is basically a must. Yes, good idea to remove trim panels - only takes 5 more minutes to do so.

Well, my 97 speedo digital odometer almost never works. I have right at 71,000 miles on it now and found a 94 speedo for sale with 71,400 on it. Thought about picking it up if I could get it for the right price.

Talk to these guys. I think they fix OE for shops like ECR and the like.

FWIW, mine, also a 97, was acting up and went completely blank years ago. I figured I had nothing to lose so I removed it to take a look. I cleaned it and reinstalled it but I left it cockeyed to allow the ribbon in the back fully extend. Whatever i did seemed to do the trick. It works and I'm up to 128k. It does flash sometimes for no apparent reason but eventually it comes back. I think the problem with these is the ribbon is a bit too long and over time has trouble being kinked or folded up back there and needs to be shortened.

Agreed, don't do it - there's a speedo shop in LA that will fix it for $300 or so. Search on speedo repair, you should be able to find it.

The Hollywood Speedo shop quoted me $250. They did a great job previously on an old MB VDO speedometer.
