speedometer 10 MPH off one imported 1989 D110

Hi guys,
I imported a 1989 D110 (2.5L NA diesel) and replaced the kph speedometer with a MPH one (they provided a bearmach brand). In comparison with a gps app I'm 10 MPH off of reality.

My mechanic thinks I need gear reducers. The people who sold me the truck don't have a clue.

I'm curious if any of you guys have any clue and suggested next steps?

Thanks!
David

LT230's have a small gear that drives the speedo. You can swap this out for a different toothed gear. If the speedo gear housing is not seized into the transfer case it should be a very simple swap.

How to replace the speedo drive gear on a Land Rover - The Land Rover Blog

You might be able to get your speedo to read correct if you have the wrong drive fitted. But +- 10MPH I would not bother with.

I just changed mine due to the cable breaking off in the drive flange. You can do it from underneath,

if it seized you might find it easier to remove the transmission brake back plate to get a set of mole grips on it.

Boston Andy, I wanted to thank you for your help. Changing the small gear works. I bought both colors. In case anyone is curious it looks like they adjust the speedometer in increments of 5mph. I needed to go two gears.

Thanks
David
