Specifications advice

Hi Guys, can you give me some advice - I know you people are Landy experts. I am seriously thinking of buying a Defender but I don't want a vehicle with ABS, Cruise Control, Electronic Handbrakes, Air Con, just don't like any of those mod-cons! Is there avehicle that you can buy that is a very basic Landrover Defender? Ideally I would like something about 96/97.

There are no 1996s. It seems like you may need to read a bit more and research these before making a decision. 1997 was only automatic transmission…is that what you're trying to say you want? Most from that year will also have A/C but you can remove it.

Best advice would be for you to read through as many for sale vehicles here and the defender technical discussion section to get a better idea of these.

Welcome.

I just really want a Defender that hasn't got ABS, cruise control and any of that crap!! I'm an old-fashioned driver and I just don't rate these things, so can anyone tell me is there a Landrover Defender which doesn't have these things and what age would that begoing back to, ie., 1970s, 80s, 90s?

It all depends on which Birmingham you are at.

Birmingham England = the sky is the limit.

Birmingham Alabama = you're hosed.

Don't know if the D90 came with those features or not. My D1 had some of those creature comforts but they have all ceased working. So you probably don't need to worry about it, haha.

No defender that you'll be able to buy legally in the US has any of those with the possible exception of air-con.

Even then it can be removed easily.

Perhaps a little background reading on defenders would be a good start ... wikipedia would be a great source.

What country are you in? People are assuming the Unites States. It makes a big difference.

Pop down to the news agent, pickup a copy of land rover monthly or land rover owner, and a copy of the autotrader. Go and look at a few for sales and then buy one. This site mainly deals with the trials and tribulations of land rover defender ownership in the USA which is defined by limited years of official imports and strict import regulations.

Few people on this site will be able to offer reliable advice about the state of the UK market and models.

Most Defenders won't have any of those things other than ABS with newer model. Just start shopping.
