Damn, barry I like those speakers.

I have JBLs in the front and Alpine marine speakers in the rear tube. I'll hunt down the numbers later tonite and post them.

I'm was thinking of changing the head unit so I have a jack for the IPOD but my Alpine right now works great so... saving $$

Just get the high end Alpine ones with the seperate crossovers, make sure they have polypropalene surrounds because they will get wet.

I found some Polk Audio "marine-rated" ones at Circuit City (Rest in Peace...!). They were on sale for about 150 for 2 pair. It was under 200 bucks total and they fit the stock openings. I ended up using the polk covers though. I still use the stock 6 CD changer and amp. They sound pretty good to me. I live in Florida and keep my 97 soft top off a good deal so it was important to get speakers that could handle the rain.

JL TR-600 Cxi's on the way for me from crutchfield - great speakers with a "normal" looking grill
$750 from shipped for Amp (MRP-F300) Alpine, wiring kit, 4 speakers, HD radio adapter for my existing Alpine 9887 w/iPod hook up. (so add $400 for the head unit)
install should be pretty easy (hopefully)

I went for the Alpine head unit and four alpine speakers. Love the ipod integration and am happy with the sound. I kind of wonder why you would need an amp in such a small vehicle.

For the sub ... it reliefs the other speakers of low frequencies so can deliver better mids and highs.

better speaker response - the head units are wimply (~15 real watts vs the rated peak power). An Amp helps you at mid non-peak volume levels where the best sound is.

Speakers

Alpine head unit, focals 3 ways up front and 2 ways in the rear. Dual 8 inch subs and split amps. Drowns out the 2.8 nicely! Oh by the way, I am nearly stone deaf after about 6 months driving and a cross country trip (jk)
