Spare on Hood?

I have to assume that there is both a visual and structural limit to the size of spare tire that can be carried on the hood. Any guidance on this? Anyone put a really big hunk of rubber up there and decide they'd gone too far? Also, I guess the tire must come off to open the hood, so this task gets more painful as the tire size increases.
How far is too far?

235/85 ?
Anything with a steel rim will be a pita imo.
On the other hand, a serie truck without the spare on the hood doesn't look complete.

'Course a spare is only a spare, being size limited by carriage on the hood wouldn't necessarily limit the size of what you wear at the four corners would it?

Most people don't take the spare off every time they open the hood.

I had one on my SW, and it looked cool from a far, but it was a huge pain in the Ass. It does block your view, it dents the hood and makes it more difficult to get in and out of the engine compartment.

If you were going on a long term expedition, I would definitely use it, but for driving around, it sucks.

If you really like it, buy a second hood so you can swap when needed.

If you raise the seat, it does not block the view as much.
