Source of heater core with down pipes?

All:

I have a coolant leak, suspected from the heater core. My '85 has the style with 2 pipes that go straight down as they come out of the riveted box. Where can I find a replacement? I looked at Rovers North and Atlantic British- no dice. Any ideas? I'd rather not fork out a million dollars for the Allisport one unless I have to. What else will I need to replace when I'm in there?

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Thanks guys! Anything else that'll likely need to be replaced? I presume there's some kind of foam piece to seal it up?

Replace with the straight pipe version - your hoses won't care.

May have both types in stock...

Brian:

Ordered from RN. Thanks though. We need to talk about my rebuild at some point!

Cheers,

Paul.

I'm going to piggyback on this -- I don't know what type I need. I have an older one with the curved pipes that came out of the box that a previous owner created for the truck.

Am I following you right, Brian, when you say either will work? I am installing a standard type NAS 90 style box.

Part number STC952 (seal that holds the heater core in place) is back ordered. Anyone have one in stock? Original is shot & Atlantic British doesn't have one.

I thought the two cores are different dimensions and not interchangeable.

On the seal stuff, It doesn't look like anything special to me and would be tempted to use a closed cell foam product sized correctly for the job.

That's what I thought too - back when I took apart my RHD box to make it LHD I ordered a flat pipe core and it didn't seem that straight forward to get it to work so I exchanged it for the drop pipe version.

AAP817

As stated earlier in this thread, the older curved pipes are AAP817.

To be clear:

1. The straight pipe matrices are designed for special straight-pipe heater boxes.
2. The curved pipe matrices are designed for special curved pipe heater boxes.

Yes, the sheet metal on the two different heater boxes do differ.

I have no idea if the straight-pipe core will work in the curved-pipe heater boxes, but I highly doubt curved-pipe cores will work on straight-pipe boxes.

Yes, everyone knows that..... The discussion was because Mybluett suggested you could substitute the newer style for the older. I just wanted it clear so that someone reading this in the future would not try to do it unless it was possible.

For my rebuild, I ordered mine from Craddocks.

Not the cheapest part in the world!

I'm awaiting a downward pipe version from Rovah Farm for an '83 110. To confirm, the straight pipe version does not fit the downward pipe box, too tall by a good bit, I tried after ordering the wrong one.
