Soft Top Vertical Bar Choices

Im installing a Bestop on my D90 project and came across an interesting problem. I have these vertical bars that hook over the horizontal bar over the door. However, in the AB install video for the top and in the Badger threads I have read they used a flat, approx 1 inch bar.

Does anyone have any experience with either and which do you prefer? It seems like the hook over/bolt down version would be more stable and keep out the rain, but this is an added PITA when swapping tops.
I have the hook over version but could easily fab up the others.

Lastly, does anyone have a better pic of the bottom of the hook over version installed? I pulled this one from another thread. Mine doesnt run flush with my tub and it looks like it'll scratch the paint up pretty good where it rubs. Maybe Im doing it wrong?? (insert that's what she said joke here)

Thanks,

Keith

if you have a pocket in the flaps of the top then you have the 1997 version.

if you want to avoid scratches put a foam backing

the shape doesn't matter

The flat 1 inch bar is only used if the bottom of your top is sewn shut to act like a pouch for the bar. I run the 1 inch flat bar on my tickford and on my RoversNorth top. It braces the top between the tub and the upper snap rail but uses the tention created by the beltrail and upper snap rail to add the FDS rigidity behind the doors.

The bars that you are showing in the picture I am using on a best top I just bought and accomplish pretty much the same thing. I installed them just the same in the picture. I like Ron's idea of using foam under the foot to prevent scratching or possibly using a plastic washer to keep the foot from scratching up the paint.

The bars originally come with a foam strip on the bottom. Approx 1/4". That should do the trick.
