Soft top options

My D90 is a fastback, it appears that one of the previous owners had someone build something custom, the fast-top is either a custom one-off, or a modified (tickford?) top... it's unlike any other I've seen before, there are no side windows, it has a zipped up sunroof, and it seals the top completely (not allowing for the cantrails for the C piller)... the mounting system is the turning locks instead of the normal snaps found on an early d90... I want to convert it to a full soft-top in the near future, I have the rest of the roll cage.. but need to figure out what to do with the mounting points (Will just converting to the rail work?) ...

I also have ini88's old softtop from his 94 D90 which works on the snap system.. I was thinking to either just convert that into a safari top and lose the windows, or to get the snaps changed on it for the inserts that I need for my clasps..

That looks like someone had it made at an upolstery shop... I have never seen anything like it before. To make it into a standard ST, you will need to add the rail system and remove those other hooks.

Can I just drill out the rivets on the hooks and will the rail system cover it up?

Yes just drill them out. And while you are at it pull off your capping and have it galvinzed : ) That is what Ill be doing over the winter.

the belt rail kit is something like $40 from Badger. You could use dans top but how much life is left in it.

Your better off saving your pennies and buying a Badger

I'm definitely going badger in the future... just need something to hold me over.. i'm thinking about following your setup for the time being, with a safari type roof then a drop curtain... at least that'll get me few the next few months while i save, then wait, for a badger...

Looks like a modified Tickford to me. At least the fabric is the same as my Tickford. It doesn't look like a bad job. Might have been done by a convertible shop or something.
