snorkel location?

I just saw a picture of a NAS '97 with the snorkel on the RHS. Anybody know why one would do that?

I wish I could remember the picture I saw recently, it was a NAS Defender with a 3.9L and the snorkel was on the RHS. The snorkle came in from the top vent and not the side like the snorkels on TDI engines.

It is petrol. The only thing I can think of is that someone had a deal on a tdi snorkel and made it work on a LHD petrol. Wouldn't this cause problems, or not?

Didn't the guy down in Austin that rolled his white '97 SW A over T run the snorkel out the Right vent by running it into the heater pickup?

Nope. I guess he likes cutting on things.

He mentions restricted airflow, but I think the restrictions would be minimal running it the right way.

Was it on a beat up Willow Green Limited? One of my friends bought a truck like that from a dealer somewhere in the Carolinas. He sold the truck 6 months back to someone. It was on Ebay for a while.

Yep, that's it. It's on autotrader now in the Charleston area. It has some pretty serious dings in both front fenders and the guy says it needs a manifold gasket. It might be a fun project - would be a fun excuse to come home to look at it - but I need to sell my pickup first.

What kind of shape was it in when your friend sold it?

Dave,

The truck looks really good from a distance...It looks like it has been around the world and back, in some sort of adventure.

My buddy bought it a few years back, thinking it was a great find, meaning that it had a bunch of upgrades and enhancements, thinking that it was used but taken care of. Turns out the truck had been used and neglected. The lockers never worked nor could he get the winch to work properly. He had a bunch of other nickel and dime issues that some got worked out and some didn't. Not much had been upgraded, I am pretty sure that the suspension was pretty stock, the eyebrows were cut to accommodate the 35's by the PO. My buddy put a bunch of money in it and finally decided that it needed to go. It was sold to one of the guys in AL, then it went to the guy in NC, it was on Ebay 3-4 times with no luck.

There was a tread on this site about it having a salvage title, the truck was originally from somewhere in CO.

I am sure that with some TLC, time and money the truck really could be pretty good. I have always liked the LEs, and I have not seen too many that have been used on the trail.
