Smokey exhaust

My '95 smokes. Sometimes it is a little and sometimes ALOT. It is definately oil burning off, due t the smell. It normally happens as I am going down a hill either coasting, or really badly when I use the engine for compression braking.

So my question is why? I hypothize that it is a ring going. What do you guys believe.

Mine does it too, I think it's the exhaust valves sticking or something like that. I have been told that you can squirt some water in the air intake under WOT at full load and it will break up any build up on the valves and keep them from sticking. But I have not tried it as of yet, and I have just tried to not use any compression braking lately.

Ya, I have been told it is a bad valve seat (possibly gunked up), causing suction to pull oil up into the Cyl. I have some AMSOIL cleaner I will try soon to see what it does. I can't imagine it is in bad shape as the truck only has 60K on it.

So we are in the same boat, my 90 runs great (well most of the time) other then the exhaust. I ran some Seafoam through the intake and it seemed to help. I think I might try it again and at the same time do an Italian tune up!

I tried sea foam for my first time about 2 months ago. I was warned that it would smoke/smell, but I assure you I had no idea how much! Next time I use it, I am going to do it at night when my neighbors can't tell.....

May I ask what an "Italian tune up" is? Revv the engine past 10K? ;-)

More or less, take it up to 5k under full throttle. I am not sure how the V8 would do at 10,000 RPM though.

make sure your flame trap, "T - peice" and etc are all clean and functional as that sometimes will over pressurise the system and get you a little smokey when off the pedal.
