Smoke filled cabin

So, one day into my Land Rover ownership I had this happen, see pic...and already got pulled over for no plates. It's got to get better right?

Wow, burned right through the dash. I would start by uncovering the wiring behind the cigarette lighter and also below at the fuse box.

It knocked out all the lights, the fuel gauge, and made the blinker indicator stay on. Made it home fine, going to investigate now.

Lucas smoke is leaking from the wiring harness. This is not good.

A friend of mine runs a land rover / range rover specialty repair shop. Based on his experience, they are capable of stopping anywhere, anytime, at any cost.

I don't know about the brakes, only their unreliability.

Electrical problems seem to be the norm. I would live to change the wiring harness on mine just to be on the safe side.
