slave gasket?

How vital is the thin metal gasket between the slave and the tranny?

I agree that the purpose of it is to keep water out. Mine had been siliconed in addition to the washer.

When I put a new one in recently I did not replace the washer or the silicone. It works fine, but would perhaps leak if submerged.
