Sky light windows

I have a defender 90 with no ski light windows. Is this something I can cut in. If so where do I buy the the glass ?

Also has anyone cut the ridges of the top. Or do I need to buy a new top?

You need those ridges as the are structural.
My own vehicle has the same external ridges and no alpines.
You can easily buy the alpine lights and gasket. All it takes then is cutting the holes......

I don't have them but love the ribs. If I didn't have an external cage, I would swap my top with a ribbed one and make a tropical top.

Get a template the glass and a rubber seal set, easy. Best if you have another truck to look at first. Safari HP has them in stock I think.

The ribbed roofs are later styles.. If that's what you want with safari windows I believe Stephen has a complete new rood with the windows in it already.. It's a pain to ship but not tooooo bad to change over the complete roof..

Shayne: The externally ribbed roof was only used on early 90/110 before LR moved the ribs internally.

You could also buy a roof that already has alpine windows in it?

First off, welcome to the forum. Secondly please don't turn into a lazy, helpless member. Please use google and the search function at the top of the page to answer simple questions like where to buy alpine windows and generic LR parts. To answer your question above call http://www.rdsparts.com. George is located in New Orleans so you can save the shipping cost with a quick drive. Safari HP (Florida) also has a supply of body panels and what not. They are both very reliable and trusted vendors.

Believe me I'm not a lazy member I've been online for two weeks planning and searching. My original question was about cutting the ribs off. When people suggest things like buying a new roof. Only seems normal to suggest a few good places I could search. So that I don't end up in a scam or company with horrible service. Isn't forums made to help people?

This is the most helpful vehicle forum I have ever seen. Welcome to the forum and give George a call.
Other helpful/trusted vendors off the top of my head:
Rovers North - Zack
Rovah Farm - Trevor
Safari HP - Steven
Geared Restorations - Scott
Overland Specialties - Oliver

Ask him for the Jeff Briggs 30% discount ... Don't be put off when he claims he doesn't know what you are talking about ... It's all part of the process to get the discount!

Brian from Defenders NW brings in containers full of Land Rover parts. You could also post a wanted ad here.
