Silly part install issue

Defender fellows. Have a silly problem. Truck is painted and being out back together. I have new rubber "bumpers", the little rubber rounds, that sit in the bulkhead next to the bonnet hinge. Problem? Getting the new ones in. I can't for the life of me get those new rubber plugs in. Any ideas / tricks?

Tried silicone oil and twist. But that doesn't seem to do it. The arrow shape just seems to squash before the hole. Will give it few more shots. Don't want to have to expand the hole.

(Keep this mature. My mind already went juvenile just reading this)

I shaved the cone down on mine, boiled it and lubed the hole.

Was like the first night I met my ex wife, but it fit... In both holes

You can also try "helping" it with an awl or tiny screwdriver. I wouldn't enlarge the hole.
