Silly Girl ? about Tire Speed Rating ??

I have a question about Tire Speed Rating. What is a better ratio for a Rover? 109S or say 108/104S ? I am not sure what the dash behind the 108 is for after the last example? Could someone better explain this to me? I understand for the most part that S and R stand for how fast you can go however I am still unsure of why some tires have for example the 108/104. Thanks in advance for helping me with this conundrum!

S is the speed rating for the tire. The two examples you provided are both "S" rated tires which means they are rated up to 112 mph. "109" and "108/104" probably refer to the Load Index. A tire with a load index of "109" can support 2271 lbs, "108" can support 2205 lbs and "104" can support 1984 lbs.

Sometimes they give a 2 load ratings for dual wheel aplications vs singal wheel aplications. Like it is rated a 108 as a single and a 104 as a dual.
