side fitting snorkel on NAS

Has anyone tried to mount a side fitting snorkel (mantex style) on an NAS Defender wing? I'm trying to figure out if it's as simple as cutting a hole, or if the non-NAS recessed vent area is critical to fitting. I would prefer to not go with the wingtop NAS style if I can avoid it. How about the straight down the wintop universal fit type?

I'm pretty sure the passenger side euro style one does not fit, the heater is in the way.... don;t know about the drivers side but look out for clearence fro the master cylinder and steering line. Try to envision the tube as well... whats so bad about the wing top version?

I think he is referring to the Diesel version with the side (vertical) mounted snorkel. I looked at doing it at one time but had trouble with the master cylinder location--it is possible, however, but it would take a bit of creative routing that, in my opinion, would make it not worth it. I was going to get the wing mounted air cleaner to run it through and then directly into the MAF, but it just was not smooth and there was no access due to the brake MC. My other concern was that here in Colorado, I have a hard enough time keeping my mirrors from breaking in the forests and did not want to have to worry about the side mounting of the snorkel.

i would think for the side mounted ones, that they would have to work with the brake booster in place. As for the southdown, that is the other straight down version I was referring to. Mantec has one like that, as in the picture I have attached. I'll have to check out the southdown. can you tell me more about that one? how is it routed? close up pics?

Thomas, that is what I'm referring to. Did you mount that to an NAS wing with no side intake, or did it have the original recessed hole for the side intake?

It's a diesel, and it's the euro body panel with the recess for the intake. I'm not sure what you'd run into trying to route it through the fender with a NAS V8, but if you can make it work, I think you'll be happier with a whole new fender set up.

I would be interested in the 200 tdi version that comes in from the drivers side fender, and I'm having a 2.8 PS diesel put in mine. I just want to know if it would flush mount or not with the recess.

The Mantec 300 Tdi rasised intake (out the fender) will not work with the NAS cage as it is made to be bolted to the windscreen frame, not the roll cage tube, so you have to modify the outlet to change the angle a little. A little fabrciation and you are all set.
