Should this part be moving?

I started noticing a metal clanking noise that sounded like it was coming directly under me as I was driving. The sound is only happening while I am moving; both while accelerating and coasting. When I stop, the noise stops. It's sporadic and I can't pinpoint a situation that seems to cause it.

I looked under the truck and noticed that this metal ring was loose and I was able to move it and spin it around with a knife. This is the front of the transfer case connecting to the front prop shaft. Should this be moving like this? If not, what is the fix? If there are new parts involved, I would really appreciate part numbers as I am new to defender ownership.

Thanks!

It's the dust seal and it should be all the way in but I doubt that is your noise.

Check your Universal Joints on the prop shafts, one or more may we worn. When they are worn, they make a clunk sound. If it is one of the four U joints, you will always know what the sound of a bad one is in the future....
