Question Shocks: Heim Joint Removal

The heim joints in my rear Fox shocks were clunking like mad... so I bought a set of poly bushings.

Any tips on removing the old busted heim joints?

Thanks!

On the Fox shocks there is a circlip on either side of the heim bearing. Remove those and press out the heim bearing and press in a new one. I think they are $20 or $25 at Polyperformance.

Thanks.

The circlips are already removed.

It is the 'pressing out' of the heim bearing I am having trouble with.

Already broke a C clamp... though I am pretty sure it said it was made in China

I use a small shop press - actually uses a jack to get the force. Not sure a c-clamp (US or china) is strong enough. You might be able to fabricate a jig for doing it, but a machine shop if you don't have access to a press.

That's what I was afraid you might say.

I suppose I'll have to take them to a machine shop then.

Cheers!

Which poly bushings?

Dan - Having a similar problem with my shocks. What part number/manufacturer did you use for the replacement bushings?

Cheers
