It goes on at certain mileage points. Just needs to be reset.

Well, it hasnt happened on my defender in the time i have had it, but it did happen on my 99 Disco. It wasnt the "check engine" light, it was the "service engine" light. It was a little brown relay up under the discos dash. Not sure where the defenders is, probably in the fuse panel.
To reset it, i made a little jumper wire and stuck it into the little holes on top. Reinstall...no light. You might even be able to just yank it with no vehicular complaints.

I just took it out... no problems since. I maintain my D90 much more than what is recommended anyway ;-)

I took the bulb out. It came on at 50,000 miles.
