Service Engine Light Reset? Help!!

I would hate to start yet another thread on this subject however I tried to reset mine with inserting a metal pin in the brown unit behind the dashboard but as soon as I remove the pin the light comes right back on. Is there a specific sequence I'm missing (e.g. ignition on first, or last, .....??). Any advice and help on this would be much appreciated. I don't want to disconnect the light, but I've done the next easiest thing, put a piece of square black electrical tape.

Remove the tape. There is a series of steps to take to reset it. Im sure someone will show you the link for it cause I have used the steps that were told on here to reset the thing myself. Its not going to hurt your truck if its not reset anytime soon.

Anyone else out there??? I was sure that I would be getting tons of responses on this one since I know that most of you would have already had this experience.

The fact that it will turn off and then turn right back on after removing the pin, does that mean that there is something wrong with the emissions system???

Thanks. I tied lrfaq.org but it's mainly talking about Check Engine Light and fault codes, and I'm looking for the Service Light.

3 easy steps to turn it off. 1) Pull apart dash to get to the little brown box. 2) Unplug from the multi-plug and throw as far from you as possible. 3) Put dash back together...tada! If you need something to tell you when to service your Rover then by all means leave it in there.....but you have to reset it EVERY time you do a service, otherwise it will randomly come on!

All it does is keep track of miles. Pull the bulb.

As I recall the last time I did it, the procedure was to turn the ignition to ON, but not start the engine, jam the paper clip in the hole in the brown box wait for the light to go out, turn off ignition. Should be good to go for another 50,000 miles.
