Seat Belt Buckle

Hello all. I did a search for this and only came up with retractor issues. Can someone point me in the right direction?

My seat belt buckle is broken on the drivers side of my NAS D90 ST. Locked the buckled with the belt buckled in.
My questions are 1) I assume i can get a small flat head screwdriver and some how release the buckle, but is there a better way or a fix?
2) looking online i see the whole kit (buckle, mount, belt, etc) can i purchase just the buckle? I asked Trevor at RovahFarm and he said he would make a few calls but it might be a while before he got anything.
3) if i cracked off the outer plastic is the buckle still operable/safe?
4) is there a generic type for this and can i find something that would work at Auto Zone? And would it be safe?

Thanks in advance!

Think you'll only find entire systems available from buckle to reel for just the reason you mention, safety.

Goggling Urban Land Rover I get these:

www.urbanlandcruisers.com/
www.urban-truck.com/

both say they work on Defenders.
