Sears Diehard Platinum no more. what now?

My dual yellow tops are 7 years old and are a ticking time bomb of let-me-down potential. I had been planning on replacing with DHP's, which I've used in the wife's cars and are rock solid reliable. Just went to sears to get one and they dropped the line. Now they offer the Diehard Gold (which research seems to describe medium grade quality).

So what to go with now? Want a deep cycle 34 with max durability that I can replace anywhere I roam. Optima can kiss my amps. I know there are a lot more AGM's out there now, but have no sense of quality.

Recommendations?

My next battery is going to be an Odyssey.

I understand it is used in some military applications.

You still can get the a deep cycle group 34 Platium, it's just the marine version with the extra lugs…

I was just in Sears. They used to have auto and marine platinums on the rack. they are all gone.

The Odyssey Batteries are (obviously to most) the manufacturer of the DieHard you sought, but at a higher price. You may also want to check out LifeLine Batteries, also an excellent, but expensive option..

I like the odyssey, but they don't sell local. I do see an exide AGM available for purchase from home depot that looks pretty good. Any word on their quality? I like how easy it would be to replace if I have an issue.

Get an Odyssey, they manufacturer half of what you are going to be looking at anyway.

Best $$ can buy. You see these in high end boats. Not recommending for our Ds as we don't have the amperage or controls to charge appropriately.

Super stoked with my Odyssey. On my second. The first I replaced because I was an idiot and didn't understand what I was doing wrong (I let it die with an accessory on, then recharged it with a cheap charger not for AGM batteries---I knew it was 8 years old so replaced it). I ended up buying a really good battery charger (CTEK) and "restored" the battery and I still use it for a bunch of other things. It is 10 years old and still does great.

Big battery---Odyssey 2150... I recommend it personally...

Couldn't agree more - to the end that we are an Odyssey dealer as a result of nothing but positive experiences in everything from rally motorcycles to Defenders.

Snapped a photo of a dual battery system while installing it a couple weeks ago

Sorry, we sent that one home with the customer. Only have a couple photos of the electrical installation we did.

Not a fan of exposed pos terminals. Boots are cheap.

Odyssey PC2150. One and done. I've run mine in -15°F temps in the depths of a northern Idaho winter and it still had the cojones to turn over my three hundy even though the engine oil was certainly like tar by that point. Ben Little ran a single one in his old Disco and forgot to unplug his Engel when he parked at the SLC airport in the summer. He got back to the airport after a week in Jamaica and it still started his truck. One is all you need.
