In general day to day driving, the UK mod drivers just have a beret on... I certainly used to. Helmets only used when on ex or at war.

But like has been said, you'd need a helluva rollover to manage to get your head to actually hit that bracket... thousands of MoD rovers here have the same mounts (including the latest wolf XD's/Tithonus which were all health & safety-ised) and there's not loads of stories about impailed soldiers.
