Safari Roof ON D90

Can a safari roof bolt on to a D90?

If it can, where is best place to source them?

I have only seen them on 109's. If they put them on an 88 I would think that it may be a little too short for a D90.

It will not bolt on unless you get a series windshield as well. The 90 roof is curved to form and fit the windshield and the series roof and windshield are flat. I am pretty sure after that it should relatively fit.

Can I ask why? Looks? Just curious.

If a guy really wanted to, I don't see why you couldn't bend up a sun sheet and screw one on to the 90 roof.

These things ain't the Space Shuttle we're drivin'

Like Keith said, just fold a sheet of metal. Use plastic or aluminium spacer and bolt it.. Voila!

The D90 windscreen is curved??? Looks pretty flat to me but maybe in a different plane.

Don't mind converting to the series windscreen if needed but may be "too much" work for the benefit.

Wanted to get some nice ventilation going in the summer. I have AC in the summer but also hate the heat almost as much.

You mean like this? http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...referrerid=670

To cut down on the summer heat, try better insulation for the roof first.

Hi, the series screen and defender screens are interchangeable. But an 88" roof is 5" shorter!

mark one yourself but getting an ali sheet bent up and space it aout an inch off the roof.

Alternately, source an early ribbed roof, then you can just screw the shade sheet right to the ribs.

The curve Tyler is talking about is the top of the windscreen, reflected in the roof skin.

The vents that go in the inner roof are still available, but not cheap. Something similar could be fabricated without much effort.

I wouldn't put that amount of efforts to put a second skin on the roof. It will vibrate and you're better of insulating the actual roof. I manage to put about an inch of urethane between the roof skin and the trim. It work like a charm. Cuts down heat in summer and cold in winter as well as stopping vibration so, less noisy!

It looks like you have a 94 D90. So you either have an ST with a fiberglass top or a POE. I'd say bolting something to the fiberglass top isn't going to work and if you have a POE roof, I wouldn't ruin it with a project that includes a piece of aluminum that was never meant to be bolted to it.

If this has nothing to do with looks, then I'd say try insulating the roof like others have said. Maybe try some Dynamat and see how that works first before you start drilling and ripping things apart.
