Rust Questions

Hi everyone.

I saw a d-90 from FL I'm thinking about buying. It had a rusted rear bumper and the cross member was in bad shape where it attached to the frame. Looked like a little rust on the frame only where the back bumper/CM is attached. The rest of the frame and 90 is very rust free. My question is can the cross member be removed and the frame where it connects to be repaired. If so what is a good ballpark. Can you ever repair a section of the frame or do you need to replace it.

I will post some pictures later.

Any help????

Yes, you can replace just the rear cross-member. It costs about $400 from what I remember. If you decide to do this, I have a brand new "fixing kit" which is all the brackets you need to weld the new one to the frame. I'll sell it cheap!

Check your PMs. Feel free to post detailed pics of the frame on image shack or similar (the size limit here makes it tough to tell sometimes). Also post some pics of the floorboard, top of the bulkead and other rust prone areas.

I'll be doing a cross member replacement after the Uwharrie Safari. So I can try to document it and post up some pointers when I do get to it.
