Roverdrive in Tdi?

Have any of you Tdi folks tried one of the Roverdrive units in your truck ? I thought about how nice a 5-8 mph cruise speed increase would be as I rattled up I-85 this past weekend - I can very comfortably cruise at about 68-72 MPH although fuel mileage seems to decrease rapidly at any speed over 70 - got me thinking about the overdrive.

I have a Fairey overdive in my 66 diesel 109 - it greatly reduces the noise and thrashing sounds at 55-60 mph and having the extra gear ratios for split shifting has come in handy but I was wondering if any of you other guys had any real world experience with the Tdi/Roverdrive combination.

IMO the roverdrive would not help since defenders seems to hit a wall around 70 mph. The wall being wind resistence.
What gearing do you have now?
I'm using R380/1.22/4.10 with 34's as a reference.

Stock gearing - R380, 1.40 T-case 3.54's and 235/85R16 tires (32") - thinking of eventually going with some 3.9 gears

Jack,

The overdrive would be nice. When I switched to 37s on the stock gearing (for a week) the truck had plenty of power. After I regeared it, I was just like you 70-72 cruising and didn't want the RPM to go any higher. Unfortunantly, I have no experience with the roverdrive unit. I was going to swap in a 1.22 unit and get the reduction that way. The 1.4's are worth a little more money so it is a free option. Never did it though, and now I have 6.20 in the diff so I max out at around 55 mph. Good luck.

Made it further than half of the other guys, but the Hammers won.

Hmm you hit a wall at 70mph? I hit a wall at umm I can hit 90+mph on flats, downhill more and uphill I can hold about 80mph. This is with 35s and a 1.4 tcase.

my tdi can cruise at low 70-75 with 35's 4.11 and 1.4 t-case. I wish I had another gear like the roverdrive
