Roof Rack

While at the Monument Safeway yesterday, there was a great looking LE parked with an interesting rack on it.

It looked like an adventure rack with the ladders on the back, but there were no sides on the basket. Almost like somebody cut the sides off, but this was definitely factory looking. Anybody know where this rack could be had? I'm thinking that this type might actually fit in the garage.

Thanks!

Never heard of that one but it doesn't take much to cut the sides off the basket. I cut 3 inches out of the supports from the floor of the basket up. Then welded the top rung back on. A little ginding and a trip to the powder coater, and that was it. A new, shorter basket.

Was there really a basket up there?
When I bought my 90, it had the front hoops and the rear ladder with two poles (one on each side) connecting the ladder to the front hoops. I think a roofrack without the basket. Could this be similar to what you saw?

That was exactly what I saw. Any idea where it's from?

Thanks!

Chance,

Not sure this is what you are looking for but www.tbruk.com has an African Outback roof rack that is basically flat. It is something I am looking at since I have a similar problem with clearance to get the truck in my garage. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate a source in the US for this rack as yet.

Yeah, that looks pretty good. However, I really liked the minimalist design (and ladder on back) of the one I saw. It sure looked factory, but who knows...

Yeah, that's it. Looking at his mods section, it looks like it's the standard LR roof rack with the basket removed (I assume it unbolts?) and bars added:

Land Rover roof rack

Stabilizer bars to keep roof rack supports in place when the roof rack
basket is off (so it fits in the garage)

You 'da man , Chris. Thanks!

No problem. There is someone else on the forum who did that. For some reason I want to say Yousef has a set of those but I cant recall at the moment.

Nope! That'd be ME! Mine are little more low key then Daves. I had them fabbed up her locally for about $300 including powdercoating. Let me know if you'd like some pictures.

nice rack!!

Hey DJ, could you post some pics, or email them. I have a roof top tent that needs a better rack sytem than the small dia. tube bars that are with the smaller stock rack. One of the oter things I need is a rack without the basket. Seems all the aftermarket racks are made only for the hard tops. Us soft top guys are pretty limited for oicking up a nice rack!

I have similar bars for my roof rack to support the ladders when I don't have the basket on. Keith at Rovertracks made them for about $75 or less.

I used boxed steel, about 30' (1/8 wall) for around 30 bucks. Have yet to weld, etc but surely it will support 150 pounds of Maggiolina.

Actually Chris is right, I had those support bars build for me by Rover Tracks and they are low profile and look nice and waaaay cheaper than what DJ paid

Chance, I see that LE all over Douglas county and his bars are huge compare to mine. He had lights on the top right...

Hey Chris,

That is only half of the rear of the cage the cool stuff is not even on there yet, the 9in axles are under but just for a lift mock-up. The cage is going to come around and attach to a custom front bumper. There is still a ton of work to be completed. Especially with the suspension. I will get a few pics to you when it is closer to being finished. It will be done by the Chili Challenge.
