roll bar

Why do some early STs have the extra roll bar pieces that run above the wheel wells? I have it on my 94 and after looking at a bunch of pics I have only been able to find it on other early 94s

Hey Barry,

I'm not an expert, but that is correct, you will only find these supports in the early '94's. This is, if I remember correctly, because the soft top was an option in the early '94's. They came standard with a cockpit tonnuea cover only. If you didn't opt for the soft top, you didn't get the rear portion of the cage, so they needed these tie bars to strengthen the "B" pillar section of the cage. The mounts for these tie bars seem to be on every '94 I have seen, and disapeared on the '95s, but only early '94s actually seemed to have had the tie bars.

Since Land Rover later made the top standard (in '95) the additional tie bars were not needed since the full cage was in place. Although I don't believe the top was a standard item at any time in th e'94 model run, I think it was really only early '94s that did not come through with the option.

If I have some facts skewed I apologize, but that is correct to the best of my knowledge.

I too have the interior bar on my early '94 #158. I also did some research into this and got a few different answers. One reason I was told was that all 90's were at first intended to have side facing jump seats instead of the bench seat. Those bars were installed for side protection as well as mounting points for the seats???? Who knows, but I like them in any case. They are tough looking, and I have a shovel mounted to one.

Good question I was wondering the same thing. I have them in my 94 as well, I like to think that it makes it a bit safer in back where the child seats will be.
