Road-Worthy Replacement Tires

All,

Me again ... I've got BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A LT 285/75 R 16 tires on my 1997 LE. Any recommendations on a tire that is a little easier on the road? ... I will undoubtedly spend more time on Phoenix's roads than dirt (sadly) as it's my daily driver. Any help is appreciated!

Jason

I have mud terrains now and am considering going to BFG AT's soon (maybe tomorrow). I thought that the AT's were pretty mild, and don't know if there is a "more streetable" choice. Good luck!

I run BFG AT's on my daily driver Disco II, 3rd set, 200,000 miles. I like them a lot and I can still offroad on them. I have BFG MT's on my Defender. Honestly, most my stuff in Colorado and Utah is on rock, and AT's do really well. I am considering going back to the BFG AT's on both trucks. I might also try the Goodyear MTR's--hey you daily driver/weekend warriors that use that tire--how is it on the street?

I just put new BFG MT's KM2s (255/85/R16) on my D90 with 110 1-ton steel wheels yesterday and I was actually amazed how quiet they were on pavement. I was prepared to turn my radio up to 11 and it wasn't necessary. I could still hear the exhaust with my top off the truck.

Nice. I hope the KM1s are as quiet, as that is what mine is coming with.

You will not be able to make a Defender into a Range Rover, by changing the tires. Car tires won't look right on a rugged truck.

Sorry to hijack, Chris where did you get your tires at in town? I am looking to get the same tire put on very soon.

I have this set up on my 110 except with 235/85/16s. The KM2s are much quieter than the KM1s. I had KM1s on my 90 and they looked awesome but were insanely loud on the road especially since they were worn. The KM2 is quieter and was redesigned because of some Euro law on noise I think. I don't love the rock crawler look though. Right now I have all terrains on the 90 and they are super quiet still compared to the KM2s but I might try the wranglers next.
