RHD 300tdi Snorkel install

I'm trying to add a safari style snorkel to my 1984 RHD 300tdi and am running into some issues.

I don't have a cutout in the right (or left for that matter) fender but can pretty easily rectify that. I'm struggling with what happens after I get through the fenderwell. This gets a bit more complicated as I have a webasto and AC under the hood as well.

Anyone install a fender mounted snorkel on a RHD 300tdi and willing to snap some pictures of your hose routing?

Any suggestions on where to buy?

Vin

why not go through the wing top if your sides are uncut?

The answer is entirely cosmetic. I like the look of the safari snorkel style of extended intake.

Do you have the original plastic intake box that mounts to the inside of the wing? There is a flex hose routed frrom the intake box to the air filter canister.

You need one of those first to mount the snorkel.

What is a "safari style" snorkel?
I only ask because if it's a Mantec solid ABS plastic type, there is a certain way to mount that and if you have a flexible lower portion (like the one I have), that may require a different cut-out and routing.

Post some pictures of what you're looking at (I assume you have an ROW truck with no cage).

I had to swap my solid Mantec one for a flexible one because of the SD cage.
For those wondering why there is a black backing plate riveted to the fender, it is because the other snorkel that came off had a real hack-job cutting out the incorrect placement and the new mount was too small for the existing hole. It was either source a new wing panel, paint it and install that or make a backing plate. Since I had just been ass-raped by ECR, I opted for the cheaper fix.

Never understood why some people go for the plastic Safari Slug instead of the nice Mantec steel raised air intake. Why would you want to cut up your vehicle for a crappy piece of plastic?

Gents,

Looks like a Safari snorkel is out, as my Webasto engine heater is in the way and I rather not spend the effort to relocate it.

Can anyone point me toward a through the top of the wing style snorkel? It seems like Mantec (who I have used in the past) no longer offers this model. Is there an equivalent?

Thanks,

Vin

I have a SS Southdown if you are interested-PM if so.
As far as the Mantec version through the top wing vent, RN still has them...

Is the southdown through the fender (requiring cutting?)

I tried Rovers North, but need a snorkel for a RHD. No luck apparently

Yes, the SD sits on the top radius edge of the fender and is ambidextrous so fits either RHD/LHD...
The RN would only need to be adapted to fit the right wing top vent I think. Could even cut the one on it off, and flip it over if you have welding access.

Mantec makes a wingtop one that does not require cutting.

The Southdown snorkel is ok, but, again, routing an intake into the side wing is a major PITA.

I have the original wing-side intake for my RHD 200tdi truck if you want it.
