Restoring 110 salisbury axle

So I started the tear down of the old 110 rear axle and have some questions.

First off any advice on best way to clean it up and paint/powder coat the housing?

It seems like it could use a good sand blasting to begin with. Any issues with blasting it and would powder coat or paint be a better option?

I need to put 4:10's in it and an air locker. I have been to Rover tracks site a ton and it says any Dana 60 gears can be used. Is that correct across the board?

My opinion...

1. Sand Blast
2. Paint, cheaper and easier to touch up.
3. Dana 60 locker will fit a 110 Sals either you can go with 24 spline or upgrade to 31 or 35 spline axles but you will have to use modified hubs on the 31s and 35s.

I took the advice of Mercedesrover over on Expedition Portal for painting the axle case and:

1. Got all the loose rust off with a wire wheel
2. Left the good black painted areas alone
3. Washed with good degreaser and water
4. washed down with brake cleaner
5. painted with SEM rust shield 38061 Gloss Black and I added hardener

I would recommend this over POR15 which I have used in the past because I have found the POR15 flakes away very easily after not too long. Just my experience.
