Replacing ground wire questions

So I picked up some 0/1 guage wire that I want to run a new ground with (then power, alternator). Anyhow, when I follow the stock ground wire under the truck I'm surprised to see that it's not running to the engine block. It rather runs along the frame into a little box (possibly a noise reducer) then up into the dash. Has anyone else run a new ground? How did you do it?

I think the ground should go directly to the frame. The engine should have its own strap and the same for the dash/fuse box area. That little box may be a protective cover over the conntction to the frame. I'm just going from memory it may be different.
