Question Replacement Headlamps

I've been checking the internet and see that in the states, there are several types of replacement headlamps for our Land Rovers.

One type is "Diamond Cut" headlamps, then there is the "Free Form Reflector" by PilotAutomotive.

From the little info available on these lights, I'm assuming that they are a quality product, which give better light output and light pattern.

Before ordering, shipping a pair to Sweden, Does anybody have any first hand experience with these types of replacement headlamps ? Any/all comments would be greatly appreciated.

Has there been any comparison test done with these headlamps?

I've noticed that the price can vary from state/ seller and of course on eBay. Would that mean that the quality varies ?

Cheers,
Tuko.

Todd, I may be wrong but when you have your vehicle inspected in Europe I am pretty sure you have to have a government approved headlamp unit. That would be a "E" in the glass. A D.O.T. or any other mark won't cut it. At least that is how it works in Germany. For what it is worth, I put Hella 7" rounds with an H-4 bulbs in and they work a lot better than the stock sealed bulbs.......Dave

Dave,
thanks for that point about the E in the headlights.
I'll check on that, but I do know from our yearly vehicle's inspection, that they don't really check the make of the lights.

The inspectors will place a fixed white plate in front of the lights to check the light patern. Adjust if neccessary, then move on.

More and more of the newer vehicles on the road today have these new "free form reflector" headlamps. So, I'm figuring, why not on the Land Rover ?

These free form reflector headlamps are now avaliable in England for Land Rover products and are EU approved. BUT nobody over there will say if they are any good for lefthand drive countries. From the limited info that I've read, there seems to be no left or right dip...but again ???

Therefore I have no idea if there is actually a difference from left/right drive countries, but if it works in the states, then it will work here in Sweden.

Cheers,
Todd.

Hey, I have Hella E-codes on my 90. Although they are not D.O.T. I still use them because they are much better then the stock headlamps. The low beams have a cool pattern that gives very good light 200 feet in front of me then drops off fast so they don’t blind oncoming traffic, and the high beams are 100 times better then stock they shoot very far down the road.

So do I Mike. Nobody in the US gives a crap about the road worthy condition of our cars. I Europe they take their cars, drivers licenses and about everything else a bit more serious.
