Replacement Cat for NRP

Hello all,
About 5 years ago I put an NRP exhaust on my 94 D90. Recently the drivers side cat element began rattling after a plunge into icy water and needs replaced. Has anyone had to replace a Cat in an NRP pipe? If so, do you remember the brand or part number that was used? Are there any particular brands of aftermarket cats that are particularly good or bad? I am trying to avoid replacing the entire pipe at this time as I am considering a diesel conversion in the future. I will weld the cat in myself....hell will freeze over before anyone besides myself lays a wrench on my truck.
Thanks in advance, Rob Dassler

Call NRP, I think if you own a NRP cats already they have you send in the old unit and put in a new set of cats in the old y pipe for $300 or there abouts. Their number is (503) 472-9090. The downside would be that you would be without your exhast for a week or so.

I think for the price of thier exhaust they should send you a new cat if it fails, dont they have a warranty?

They (Rovers North actually) warrantied my NRP cat which blew apart after six months - NRP replaced the y-pipe. I think 5 years might be pushing it but I would call NRP first. RN sent the replacement ahead of the return so no downtime.

My passenger side cat gave up the ghost after about 2000 miles over the course of three years. Doesn't get driven very often. I called NRP with the limited lifetime warranty and all.....and they were happy to install new cats for about the cost of a new y-pipe( I was quoted $375 per cat). Chunks of catalytic converter actaully came out of the tail pipe section. The rattle drove me nuts so I removed the y-pipe. Cut the pipe just behind each cat and had a look see. Just as I suspected, the cats looked brand new and the passenegr side had simply broken loose. Well, long story short, I reinsatlled the y-pipe and lets just say the truck breaths a little easier now.

The NRP cats look generic to me. I am sure any muffler shop would sell one in that style. Why not drop by and ask them to sell you one. Or better yet pull your y-pipe and go see them. And have it replaced off the truck. So you do not have any other monkeys wrenching on your precious.

Being in KS I am a fan of the test tube approach.
