Replace Starter

How much would it cost to replace the starter in a 1984 Defender 90?

That is a bit of a broad question. What engine? Are you looking for a parts cost or labour as well? are you certain the starter is bad?

starter question

This is a 2.5 diesel engine model 12J. I was told that it is the starter and I would be interested in the cost of the part as well as labor and how long the job would take. Thanks! I just got my first Defender 90 and I am about to start restoration on it so this is all new to me

Do it yourself and save yourself $100 in labor.

Here is a good site for looking up part numbers: http://www.allbrit.de/UGCtree.cfm?Sprache=EN

Google ERR5009. $200 or so. I'm not sure the best source in the USA. I'm sure someone else will know.

They are very easy to change in a 2.5NA. Maybe an hour labour.

Well since it's 3 bolts and the nut for the wires, I'd say it should take the average shop Joe a day and a half and three weeks waiting for parts.

Or you could order one from Trevor at Rovahfarm for 239.00 and have it in yourself in about an hour including time to put a band aid on your busted knuckles.
