Replace hub seal surface on axle spindle?

I know I can get a used axle spindle from a disco, but was wondering if the hub seal surface is replaceable like they are on the series? I have searched but can't find any equivalent to this for the defender

http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/1223.cfm

It *looks* like it could be replaceable on my spindle but want to buy a replacement before taking a chisel to it.

I'm already stuck waiting for parts so I think I'm just going to hit Randy up for another set of spindles. If I had a lathe I'd give JB weld a try!

Seems silly they dropped the "feature".

Charles, before you JB check out Speedi-sleeves. I had scoring on my rear pinion yoke, used one and it sorted it right out. Best $20 fix ever, Napa generally has them or can get them (or Amazon).

I have heard of them but never tried them before. I was under the impression you'd need to change seal sizes but it doesn't appear so. In any event, I'm just going to get some better condition used ones from a D1 from Randy. My truck is half disco anyway and I think this is a better solution too.

Yeah, the distance piece on defender, disco, etc stub axles aren't replaceable. Frustrating. I guess it was a cost savings thing.
x2 on the speedi-sleeve. I've used them with great success on other things.

Jimmy! Good to hear from you.

I already have a used pair on the way, and need them by tomorrow to have any chance of getting my truck back together by Friday.

But if they are not as nice as I'd like, I'll get back to you, thanks!

Charles the spindles vary in lenght between abs and non abs, the abs is shorter thus the replacement you are getting may not work... I found out this crap about 7 yrs ago whenconverting frankie to a 24 spline abs (the only way 24 comes) from a 10 spline non abs... the 90 and up abs spindles with 10 spline drive train are the same as 24 spline.
when doing the swap, you will need the abs hubs to go with the abs spindles... Iknow it gets confusing but once you compare then (if at all possible side by side) you will see the difference between apples and oranges.. for that matter the seals are different as well.. I even tried mixing and matching parts to know avail... it is all or nothing.
I know you are not doing a swap, im just dragging the illustration to point out the difference in spindles.

Thanks Carlos. Lucky for me Randy is well aware of the differences and went through this with Huff recently as well. I measured and he's sending me some non-abs ones (i'm not sure what they are coming off but I'll ask at some point).

A special thanks to JSBriggs for helping me out with the continued mocking of Lav! Worth noting is that the file was named "boy band stubble"!

LOL, a little more zoomed in than I had expected. At some point he's going to learn to not post pictures of himself anymore!
