Renting a Defender in Mexico

Has anyone ever had any experience renting a Defender in Mexico while on vacation?

I've never seen a Defender in Mexico... Just about 10,000 VW Bugs.

Really. I figured everyone else had them, besides the U.S. so maybe it would be fun to rent a 110 for vacation. Sure beats the mini van rental!

In Costa Rica I didn't see any for rent so I did the next best thing and rented a Toyota Yaris.
I took it everywhere. Off-road, across streams/rivers, I mean everywhere. The others were in a jeep and my wife and I followed wit surfboards on top. When I got it back to the rental office, it was missing a few things, hubcaps, license plate. The interior was a mess from the water crossings. And in the engine compartment it was hardly recognizable.

+1
We took a 110 from Maine to Southern Mexico and the only other Rover (not including Discos. RRs) we saw in Mexico was a red Series I. Never saw a Defender the entire time in the country.

I rented a brand new 110 TDI in Belize two years ago. It was the best part of the trip. If anyone is ever headed to Belize let me know and I can get the details for you.

Just got back from cozumel and costa maya. Tons and tons of Jeeps for rent, but i didn't see a single land rover while i was there. With the way that people drive through the city I wouldn't want to rent anything. I just stuck to cabs; and there were several times i thought the driver was going to kill us or someone else....very interesting getting around down there.

Yeah, I disliked Aruba. Won't be there again anytime soon. Headed to BVI in May. Won't get to rent a Defender, but I am renting a 38' Cat.

As a side note. I snapped this picture of a very nice late model 110 on Roatan Island, Honduras when i was on a cruise a couple years ago. Just thought i'd share it as a 1st post.
