Removing roof ribs

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the roof ribs on an early 110 without compromising structural integrity. Looking at racks and an external cage, but trying to avoid a new $3k roof. If the ribs are structural, can the roof be strengthened on the underside? Thanks in advance

I saw one listed on ebay uk, that looked half done to add a sun roof, then went for sale. I didn't bother to ask how it went.

I am also interested in this. I have ribs on mine and I want them off. Good luck

The roofs always have ribs. They are either external or internal. Remove them and you have a beer can. The aluminum would flap / drum going down the road @ highway speed and probably rapidly loose its shape. Best of luck with that.

I'd have someone like urban or safari source you a take off. Second Doug, don't remove structural elements of the roof unless you intend on reinforcing underneath. I cannot imagine it would be pretty given that they are tack welded on

the "later" 1990's to mid 2006 or so "smooth roofs" had ribs on the inside behind the headliner. The late Td5 and puma roofs have ribs on the outside again.
