Removing ignition switch

Anyone know how to remove the ignition switch assembly from the steering column? There seems to be a cover/cap over the bolts/screws. There has to be an easy way to remove it without drilling it out.
Thanks
Chirs

They are break off bolts. You tighten them until the hex head breaks off leaving what you see. You can either drill them off or use a small hammer and center punch and tap the bolts in a circle to loosen. I always use the center punch method as they are not that tight. Loosen both at the same time, though, working on each a little bit so as not to put either in a bind.

I used a type of drill bit callled an ez-out. They did the trick with a minimal amount of hastle. When you are removing the old bolts watch for the washers. You will need them when you install the new assembly.

Thanks Mark! I just tryed to remove it with the hammer and punch but it didn't move. So a trip to Sears for bolt-out bits is in order.
