Recaro CS Ambler seats

Anyone tried these or heard anything about them? My stock seats are...ok but on longer rides I dream of something more comfortable but also supportive when wheeling. Found these through TD5 alive and seem like a great solution as they come with mounts for factory rails and seat bottom still pops out. Awesome...except for the price ($1600 each plus shipping) which makes me cry a little

Oh they have heated too....

I think there's a thread just a few weeks old about a rail system for basically any seat? They may be meant for a 110 (primarily) though.

I knew I had seen some base conversion brackets before too.. here they are
http://www.entreq.de/produkte-lr-def...g-schwarz.html
So just need to figure out how to make the base removable and save my self a ton of money

I pinged Recaro to see if they know anything about making the cushion removable as well as Entreq in Germany to see if they know although that is assuming they can read my English...

figure out a way to make those $600 ebay seats work and I'd be interested too. $600 plus some hardware is a lot more palatable than $3200.

I would think that the $600 seats - only the back would be usable. Then you would need to recover or customize with the recarro bottom mould and cover with the old Defender base seat to match the back, since the base seat is a separate unit with two pins to lock them into the bottom seat frame.

that is assuming they use the same style of lock to hold in the base. I could see taking the new seat and having a interior shop separate the back from the base matching the factory materials and add some sort of system to hold the base in place.

Or build on the old seat base frame?

Another thought - would be to have the seat as is with a whole seat removal release?. Access to the battery is not often, and for battery jumps a quick connect cable system. (just drill a hole in the seatbox)

I think that's what josh was talking about except they folded back if I remember correctly which is why they were for a 110. Let me look for thread

I've seen these mentioned in other posts, but has anyone had experience with mounting them in a Defender with a seat that does not have a removable base? Will this work with the Recaros or ebay versions?

The Recaro CS is indentical to the SVX 60 Anniversary seats, yes, I know they do make the one with the lift out seat base. Otherwise it might be just as easy to make a thick cable into the engine bay from the battery so you can charge it without the need to lift out the seatbase.

The proper Recaro CS is still pretty expensive here, at least more than $ 1500 a piece excl 21 % sales tax, The SVX 60 Anniversary is almost double in price.

I still have 2 sets of OE Defender SVX seats available though, also other SVX parts in stock, see pics

I've made a couple of different versions of a tilting seat base that could accommodate any seat. I just need to know the seat slider dimensions or the seat mounting location if you are nixing the sliders. I'll post pics of a recently powder coated "offset" hinge that I made to clear my roll hoop this weekend.

here is the unassembled powder coated "hinge"

here's the prototype. It worked ok but the seat hit the roll hoop. Also of note the Smitybilt seats I used are probably 3/4 to an 1" higher than stock on this version. I got it down another 1/4 on the new version but the smitybilt seats have a lot of cushion.

tilted forward just to see if it could work with a pickup bulkhead

I like the SVX styling better for the Defender, but 3K a piece is enough to make me

If you get those Recaro cross sportster cs seats, tmdtuning has a kit to convert the seat bases to tip up/removable. Works great.
