rebuild or replace my LT85?

Hello All,
I am a new member to the 110 club and recently imported a pretty decent 1988 LHD 110 with AC. I am enjoying the truck but have an important question about the transmission. My truck has an LT85 with the expected issue of lots of bearing noise. It also has a thow-out bearing issue as the transmission does not fully disengage from the engine. I to fix this issue and at the same time rebuild the transmission. I have a few questions for all of the experts here on the page.
1. Is it worth rebuilding the LT85 given the challenges of finding parts and the history of bearing failure or should I swap it out for an R380?
2. The second question is this - I intend to trade out my 3.5V8 for either a 4.2, 4.6 or possibly a 300TDI at some point. is a conversion to the R380 okay for this?
3. Lastly, if I were to keep the LT85, any suggestion where to have it rebuilt? I live in Nashville Tn.

Thanks all!

Beautiful truck! I'm getting more and more interested in doing away with the white top -- due to the awesomeness of trucks like yours.

I can't really ad much, since although my transmission is not having issues, I have all the same questions you have.

I also have an '88 with the AC... but it is dead. At some point it must have caused enough condensation in the bulkhead that it rotted it away and the AC unit was pulled and my whole dash is messed up, along with a home built heater box under the bonnet.

Did your truck come from Dubai?

1. Check/adjust the clutch pedal.
2. Check the transmission fluid.

IF you are thinking about rebuilding yours or sourcing a rebuilt R380, check with Rob D in ABQ. He rebuilt my LT95 a few years ago. I am extremely satisfied.

Thanks all. I think I am going to do a conversion to an R380. Will likely link it to a 4.2 or 300Tdi at some point.

Thanks for the complements as well. I like the white roofs though as they look classic to me but don't pair as well to metallic paint IMO. I think I will likely strip the inside and line it with truck bed liner material. Anyone done that and how did it turn out? Does it stick to dynomat?
