Rear door inner panel

Re-working 97 wagon

Still on interior . . .

Now that hinges are replaced, floors are stripped and repainted w/ stainless bolts and new carpets going in, among the many thousand things to do , One issue I know I will also want to repair is the rear door.

3 questions:

1- overall conditions of most panels is good, however, there is some bubbling/rust at the rear door bottom (latch side) Rust due to rain draining in via the handle? - has anyone cleaned this up before? POR-15? Clean/sand repaint? Treat inside?

2- The rear inner trim panel has a small tear (about 1"), which I assume is common, I had considered mounting somthing there perhaps I can find a 110 rear door pocket? (other suggestions?) or what replacement panel is most applicable? Can I find a replacement original at a reasonable cost?. I have seen the diamond plate ones online. Opinions re these?

3- Also planned to clean up rear hinges . . is someone making alloy ones for rear yet? If not best route in rust proofing existing ones?

Thanks!

I'd say
1)Yes
2)I had mine made out of a diamond alu sheet...I used the old one as a cardboard and have it pre-cutted.
40 Euros.
Only issue is when refitting the bits, diamond surface doesn't allow a neat fit,so I had to help a bit with a grinder...

It's a bit rough but it works.

If you have the chance and $ you could try and have it CNC made.

Larry,

1. I've used POR 15 on other vehicles and even though I prepped the area well it still started to peel after a few years.

2. You can get the QT rear door liners (http://4x4ag.com/products_lr_qt_rear_door_liners.htm) for $158.

3. Don't know.

Hope this helps.

Measure the rear door, from hinge line of the door to where wiper motor starts

If it's 250mm or 10" then YES it would fit.

If it's 300mm or 12" then NO it won't fit.
