Re: Catalytic

My passenger side cat is bad, going to change it with magnaflow 94004, now since most likely may have to drop Y, do you recommend changing driver side as well? seems to make sense, change one, change both...... advise?
If so, can I use the same cat on driver side? right now they are different, passenger side is same shape as magnaflow and driver side is completely roun/ tubular. Any idea why would be different shape??

Thanks....

phil

I would change them both at the same time, especially if they are original or you have high mileage. I have seen people use the same aftermarket cats on both sides, but check the fitment and if it will fit, do it.

I'm not sure if original..... they are Land Rover, but from Y back, its a fairly new Borla system..... mileage is high at 100K....

I would change them both at the same time since the y will be out anyways. I used the same cat on both sides--it was the universal magnaflow as well--not sure which catalog number, but it certainly could have been that one...

Ha... funny.... seems we share similar toys! This place is about 25-30 min from Beacon, let me know
if you want they're info or just hang back and see what they do with mine. The guy sounded good and
seemed willing to do what ever it took to get it done. Places like meineke are a corp machine, rarely
deviate from the usual.
I'm around this weekend and about 20 min from Beacon..... maybe hookup one of these days....

Alright, so I just received my new Borla system over the weekend, replaced under warranty (muffler, pipe(s), tip). I haven't opened up the box yet, so I don't know if they sent a pamphlet on places to have this installed for free on their dime or not, but I'm also looking to do the catalytic converter / cats and o2 oxygen sensor (s) at the same time since I have some worn out cats, and threw a lambda code a few times over the past few months.

I'm looking to just cut the Y-pipe and have a shop just drop in and weld Magnaflow Universal 94004 cats in there. Is there any reason why I should replace the whole Y-pipe instead as seen here by part ESR3063?

http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/ESR3063.cfm

For just the Magnaflow 94004 there are a few different types on Amazon, depending on how they were originally shipped (P for pallet, D for something else according to Magnaflow). I had to buy a bunch of other things on Amazon today for Christmas, but the cats are a problem because of when the 94004P can be shipped (I'd like to have this all done soon). The 94004P is also CARB compliant whereas the others are not. They are $65.95 + $10.83 shipping (or $77 total) each, or $144 total for both. The Atlantic British Y-pipe with cats installed is $550 plus shipping I'm assuming, so I'm ahead probably $420 by just buying just the cats.

Search:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...agnaflow+94004

94004P: CARB Compliant
http://www.amazon.com/MagnaFlow-9400...3719703&sr=8-5

94004: NON-CARB Compliant:
http://www.amazon.com/Magnaflow-9400...3719703&sr=8-1

Oh, I also bought some new o2 oxygen sensors - made by NTK packaged as NGK 25016 12mm which will replace my ERR6729 ones. They were $95 each.

http://www.amazon.com/NGK-25016-Oxyg...3716819&sr=8-2

Anything else I should replace? I think I covered it all, aside from a gasket or two.

Those are the smallest cats I've ever seen; is that for the 110 or your 90? I don't see those on their site.

They are for the 110. Trailhead had this already made up but I think they would make up a set on request.

Nice. Yeah, I saw the 2 o2 sensors and figured that out. They look really nice. When are you going to install that puppy?!

Over xmas. I need to decide on the cat back. I am thinking NRP, but I love the Borla on my ST, I just dont think its the right sound for the 110.

Those bends those near the outlet look very restrictive.
