Re-build of B777 ONR

Should have started with from the beginning so I will start now.

OK, had some time to play with the 90, inserted the rear diff into the axle, bolted on the prop shaft, front prop shaft is like to short? with it fully extended there is a gap of 1.5"

I checked the wheel base and came up with 93.5" which is .5" longer than spec.

Only change to the front axle is, it was from a D1 but the diff is the original 86 year (I think), I ask. Are the diffs different in nose lenght? I don't have the orginal axle tube anymore.

Would some kind sole that has a 200tdi-LT77 D90 measure the edge to edge of the front prop shaft.

I am getting a measurement of 28.25" required length

Thanks

I measured 28.25" fully extended. Drive shaft just happened to be off the truck. 200tdi/LT77

Fully compressed is down around 26"

diff nose length should not be different. All defenders with lt230's use the same front prop shaft. How did you use a d1 front axle without changing to the later wide style (better) radius arms too ?

David thanks for measuring

my old front prop shaft that was taken off, tagged & Bagged measures 26" fully extended & 24.25" fully compressed. I had a old DII front prop shaft that I rebuilt and was the same length so was going to use that.

Doug, I just happened resently got a set of RTE offset arms from a forum member, as I could not find a set of the thicker arms local.

Thinking getting those arms,I would be saving getting my balls offset.

With everything snugged up I am seeing a 1 1/8" incline to the rear on the springs, is this right?

I did see the same sort of measurements with the old original arms on.

The only items changed on the front other than a new Marsland chassis is the D1 axle.

Whats up??????????? I am approaching my project budget, soon will be eating into my rollcage money. I have been running Land Rovers for over 30 years now, so I know much of a money pit they can be.

propshaft

Number stamped on original propshaft is 571995, comes out as a RRC early propshaft

why did it fit before?

Is there a differance between 1986 NA diesel to 200tdi chassis?

I had this issue on my 90 thanks to a 2" lift and the problem was solved by getting a proper 200tdi propshaft.

I had a similar problem, I had two kids stand on the front of the frame and it seemed to get closer. I'm assuming it will get closer as more of the truck goes back on (more weight up front)

wrong propshaft

Ok, sorted this out, after a few Mardi Gras drinks, I remember when I took off the front propshaft the dust cap was not screwed onto the front splined piece, and I looked at the marks left by the gaitor and this morning confirmed it by looking at pictures I had taken during dismantling. The spline was only 1" into the female end. Who said drink was bad for the memory? Mount Gay and Newcastle brown sort it out again.

Not sure if it was the PO had removed and replaced it with anything lying around, or this is another stolen part by some bastard at Southampton Docks.

Now looking for a correct 200tdi D90 prop shaft.

Thanks

Would like to add, if you got a 200tdi with LT77 that was converted from NA or petrol and if you haven't done so pull back the gaitor and check the splines are not showing and the dust cap is fitted. Front propshaft

Early D1's (prior to the 300Tdi era) had the narrow radius arms.

200Tdi 90/2.5 NA had the same propshafts. 300Tdi & V8 (and Td5) defenders are the same length
