Range Rover Tragedy!!

i just pulled out of a stop sign by my house today i then heard a low thump and then no gears in the transmission only park it dosent move at all, i checked the linkage in it is where it is suppose to be.

Please Help

How do you know it is the trans? Pull the PTO cover and see if the output is spinning to be sure. If it is not, the pump probably died so get a new used trans.

will do, but does that explain the low thump i heard before it died?

its a TH400 where is the PTO on it? thanks

There probably isn't a PTO on a TH400 if memory serves. I think he assumed you had a ZF rover trans.

ya thats what i thought to, im leaning towards possible torque converter failure?

GM has been putting th400s in cars for 50 years now, there should be plenty of mechanics who can fix them in their sleep or pick-n-pulls that have them laying around for cheap.

no problem

TH475 auto same as th400 just stronger gears
FJ60 transfer case


it makes a whining noise kind of like a sequential gear box in all gear selections

Loud thud and then whining noise, doesn't move at all in any gears

stock open differentials? Probably a cross pin let go.

Narrowed it down to either bad torque converter or valve body

im thinking new used trans for $150 and new Monster torque converter for $139

Problem solved!!!!!

torque converter bearings came loose and the turbins couldn't spin

upgraded to B&M lets see how long this lasts
