r380 shifting trouble

I had trouble this this morning getting it into 3rd gear on way home now and all the gears work but in first and second nothing is keeping shifter in it H slot. I have massive side to side play of the shifter in every gear. Any theory?

Broken lockout spring on shifter? Broken shifter?

Hopefully it is not internal to the transmission. I would pull the shifter assembly and see what is going on.

It's a grub screw on the inside of the box. Remove the top inspection plate and you will see a mechanism that transfers the shift from upper shift rod to lower shift rod. The grub screw in that mechanism has come loose or broken.

ok, pulled gear lever housing and nothing was broken. I must not have fully seated the grub screw in the hole when i did my transmission a while back. it's TOWT now! Thanks everyone.

i still have all the rubbers off for test drive to work tomorrow, but I think I'm set.

I'll be ordering a grub screw as a spare! talk about a small part that can leave me stranded!
